October marks the opening gathering of The Song Garden—an evolving seasonal participatory experience where the community responds to the changing rhythms of the Pacific Northwest through voices, stories, sounds, images, and personal reflections. Together, these contributions are transformed into collective expressions of music, art, and place.
For our opening gathering, we'll explore the theme of Threshold through the element of Water, with the Salish Sea as our bioregional guide. Together we'll create a collective expression of autumn inspired by the returning rains, salmon migrations, lengthening nights, and the experience of crossing into a new season.
At the heart of the evening is Crowdsource Choir, where the audience becomes the choir. Together we'll sing familiar songs alongside original music created from the community's contributions, creating a musical experience that could only exist because of the people who helped shape it.
Unlike a traditional concert, the experience begins before you arrive.
The Song Garden invites the community to contribute voices, stories, sounds, images, and reflections inspired by the season. These contributions become the creative source material for the month's visual installation, immersive soundscape, original songs, and participatory singing experience.

Crowdsource Choir: Summer Solstice Sing at Alki Beach
Join Crowdsource Choir for Summer Solstice celebration at Alki Beach. We’ll gather inside the historic Alki Bathhouse to celebrate the Summer Solstice through communal singing, collective expression, and shared harmonies.
This year’s Summer Solstice Sing will also include the creation of a brand-new Summer Anthem shaped by your voices, your sounds, and your feelings of summer and the solstice.
Ticket holders will be invited into the creative process, contributing words, sounds, and recordings that will help shape an original anthem that we’ll sing together live on the longest day of the year.
This is more than a sing-along. It’s a chance to help create something together that could only exist through the people gathered in the room.
Together, we’ll sing songs of summer, sunshine, warmth, freedom, and light. Songs of uplift, joy, connection, and collective release. Then, through the crowdsourced feeling and expressions gathered from the community beforehand, we’ll bring a brand-new co-created Summer Anthem to life together inside the natural acoustics of the bathhouse by the Salish Sea.
No singing experience is needed. Crowdsource Choir is designed for everyone. You do not need to be a “good singer” to participate. All breathers welcome.
This is not a performance to watch from the sidelines. The crowd becomes the choir.
You'll be guided live, learning simple harmonies, layered vocal parts, rhythms, and some familiar songs in a way that is accessible, playful, and deeply communal.
We’ll conclude in time to step out onto the beach to watch the sunset together as daylight stretches into summer night.
Afterward, feel free to continue the evening around the beach bonfire. We’ll keep the fire going well into the night.

The Space
The residency takes place in the intimate Art & Music Room at Populus, the city’s newest cultural hub in the historic RailSpur District of Pioneer Square. Designed to weave nature, art, and community into every detail—from its rooftop bar to its warm wood interiors and abundance of plants—Populus is a fitting home for a gathering rooted in civic pride, shared voice, and renewal.
